Dylan Riley is Professor of Sociology and the author of The Civic Foundations of Fascism in Europe: Italy, Spain, and Romania 1870-1945 (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2010, re-issued by Verso 2019), Antecedents of Censuses from Medieval to Nation States: Volume 1 of How Societies and States Count, and Changes in Censuses from Imperialist to Welfare States: Volume 2 of How Societies and States Count (both with Palgrave 2016). He has published articles in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Catalyst, Comparative Sociology, Contemporary Sociology, Comparative Studies in Society and History, Social Science History, The Socio-Economic Review and the New Left Review. His work has been translated into German, Russian, and Spanish. He is also a member of the editorial committee of the New Left Review, and is currently at work on a book entitled Rethinking Liberal Democracy and the Fascist Legacy under contract with Verso Books.
